EU’s top diplomat Kaja Kallas visited Vilnius University

On 8 September, Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, visited Vilnius University and the VU Library.

The EU’s top diplomat from Estonia was welcomed by VU Rector Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas, VU Vice-Rector Prof. Vilmantė Pakalniškienė, and VU Library Director Irena Krivienė.

On the occasion, the Library’s specialists selected several Estonia-related documents held in its collections. In the Franciszek Smuglewicz Hall, Kallas was introduced to the documents by Nijolė Klingaitė-Dasevičienė, Director of the Library’s Research and Heritage Collections Department.

Later, the guest took part in a discussion with students from various fields of study, moderated by Prof. Margarita Šešelgytė, Director of the VU Institute of International Relations and Political Science (VU IIRPS).

Kaja Kallas is an Estonian politician who served as Prime Minister of Estonia from 2021 to 2024. Since 2024, she has served as the EU’s foreign policy chief and Vice-President of the European Commission.
