On 21 November of 2022 the President of the Republic of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda paid a visit to Vilnius University Library.
The President saw the exhibition “Inspired by Skaryna: 500 Years of Vilnius Printings”, located in Franciszek Smuglewicz Hall of VU Library and afterwards visited rare books storage area and bookbinding workshop.
During his visit the Head of State had the opportunity to view the oldest manuscript owned by VU Library – a parchment dating back to 1209 – as well as other documents important to the Lithuanian heritage. Among these documents was a manuscript of translation of the Holy Bible by Antanas Baranauskas, which has been included in the Lithuanian register of UNESCO “Memory of the World” programme.
