The facade of the Old Observatory

Early astronomical and a land surveyor’s instruments are depicted on this wall, seen from VU Library Courtyard. If you look closely, you will see a sundial, binoculars and a telescope tube among them.

It is believed that these images were painted in the 1770s by the artist Ignatius Eggenfelder, who painted portraits of the patroness of the observatory Elżbieta Ogińska Puzynina and its founder Tomasz Żebrowski.
